Johannesburg South, Gauteng, South Africa
Over more than a decade of scribbling for money, I have been an online copywriter, a journalist, a sometime-writer of short stories, and probably any other variety of professional or hobbyist wordsmith you can imagine.
This was where I got my start writing professionally. Netage is a small South African online marketing firm that hired me when SEO was still a pretty new concept around these parts. I learned the ropes of keyword research and the crafting of online copy.
Electromode is a local music label for whom I produced and managed online content as a part of a larger initiative in their attempt to break into the online world. I wrote entertainment-related articles for them, as well as ran their CMS.
I beat feet on the street for a local newspaper, digging up stories, interviewing persons of interest, and snapping photographs of events as they unfolded. There was a certain amount of PR work involved for interested shareholders as well.
